Hope everyone is doing well and getting ready for the school year ahead. This blog is dedicated to my friend, mentor, uncle, and after this summer I can proudly say my colleague, Brian uncle. When things do not go the way I want, I remember what Brian uncle taught me a few summers back as he launched and shared his life stores in the book Elevate to Great. Of all things the one thing which has helped me greatly is how you taught me “to break the script.” Many times, life catches us by surprise and puts us in an uncomfortable position, at that time there are two options we have. We could either take it heads on with an attitude to break the script or do nothing and complain.
The concept sounds obvious and nothing new of breaking the script, but it is not just about doing something different, it is the attitude by which we do it is what Brian uncle taught. Growing up and still being in my teens when I am asked to do something, or I do not get what I want whether it be a meal at dinner or doing an assignment for that matter I still have to do it but it is the attitude by which I do it now has changed. Breaking the script is engrained in me and embracing new opportunities with a positive attitude has started to mold me in new ways. A recent example has been this summer break.
This is my first summer when we have not travelled as a family to India and spent in the US instead. At first me and my sister were wondering what we will do all day and I was on the edge to becoming irritated and complainant. Then I remembered “breaking the script” and had a conversation with myself, hit the reset button, and wow summer has gone by like a swift and I have learnt so many new skills, made new friends and surprisingly probably spent the least amount of time watching TV. I am sure everyone can relate to what I am talking about here as we all have been forced to break the script this year by the forces of mother nature. The key for me is to continue to embrace uncomfortable moments in our day to day life and make those moments my teacher.
As I go into high school this is the formula which will help me in getting familiar with the unfamiliar. I am going to continue breaking the script and learning new things for the rest of this year as we all stay at our homes. With that I dedicate this blog to Brian uncle on his birthday and thank you Brian uncle for impacting my life and contributing in strengthening my foundation along with always being there for me and teaching me to find the inner courage to grow in life.
Throughout the school year, I am planning to post regularly on my social channels, and I would love to make it interactive with your participation. So please join me on my social channels by clicking below and please do like, comment, and share.
